According to the forecasts of Oil World experts, in 2019/20 MY Egypt will continue increasing the imports of sunflower seed, which volumes will reach nearly 110 thsd tonnes, against 100 thsd tonnes in 2018/19 MY, and 90 thsd tonnes in the season-2017/18.
In addition, in the current season Egypt will slightly recover the import volumes of sunflower oil — up 18% per year, to 530 thsd tonnes (448 thsd tonnes; 545 thsd tonnes), and sunflower meal — up 32.5%, to 110 thsd tonnes (83 thsd tonnes; 139 thsd tonnes).
According to APK-Inform figures, as for the countries-suppliers of sunflower oil, in the first quarter of 2019/20 MY (September-November) Russia already shipped nearly 56 thsd tonnes of this product on the Egyptian market, as opposed to 40 thsd tonnes in the same period last season. It should be noted that in 2018/19 MY (September-August) Egypt purchased nearly 254.3 thsd tonnes of sunflower oil of Russian origin.
At the same time, for the first 3 months of the season Ukraine reduced the supplies of sunflower oil to Egypt by 93% — to 2.6 thsd tonnes only, against 39 thsd tonnes in the same period of 2018/19 MY. At the same time, in 2018/19 MY Ukraine shipped nearly 59.5 thsd tonnes of sunflower oil to Egypt.
At the same time, Egyptian buyers continued reducing the imports of soybean oil, in terms of increasing of the domestic production of the reporting type of product. Thus, in 2019/20 MY Egypt can produce nearly 653 thsd tonnes of soybean oil, which will exceed the last season figures — 634 thsd tonnes, and the figures of 2017/18 MY — 468 thsd tonnes. In turn, in the current season the imports of the product can reduce to 180 thsd tonnes, against 235 thsd tonnes in 2018/19 MY.
