For three recent seasons, Ukraine significantly increased the exports of oilseeds to countries of the MENA region. If in 2017/18 MY the share of oilseeds shipments from Ukraine to the reporting destination reached 59% in the general exports, and in 2018/19 MY — 64%, then in the first half of 2019/20 MY the figures already reached 67%, declared the Commercial Director at MK Merchants SA powered by Grain Expo, Cezary Maciborski, during his report within frames of the international conference Middle East Grains&Oils Congress-2020, on March 3.

In particular, the expert stressed the significant increasing of the shipments of Ukrainian soybeans to the MENA market in the first half of 2019/20 MY — at the level of 1.2 mln tonnes, as opposed to 0.5 mln tonnes in the same period last season (up 2.4 times), which also formed nearly 75% of the general exports of the oilseed in 2018/19 MY in the reporting destination.

In addition, Ukraine continued gradually increasing its grain exports, and shipped nearly 18.7 mln tonnes of grains to the MENA countries in 2018/19 MY (up 12% y-o-y). At the same time, in the first half of 2019/20 MY the shipments of Ukrainian grains increased by 68% compared with the same period last season — to 11.8 mln tonnes, said C.Maciborski.

According to him, since the beginning of the current season wheat became the main crop supplied from Ukraine in the reporting destination — 54% of the general export volumes of grains, while in the previous MY corn took the leading position among grain crops. Thus, in 2018/19 MY the share of corn exports from Ukraine to the MENA countries totaled 51%, and wheat — 33%.
