APK-Inform Agency decreased forecast of wheat production in Kazakhstan in 2021 due to draught in June-July in northern parts of the country.
In particular, there were extremely high air temperatures in the southern parts of Akmola and Kostanay oblasts which cover 50% of the wheat planting areas in Kazakhstan, which led to downward revision of yield to 1.07 t/ha.
Thus, considering the total planting areas under wheat in 2021 estimated at 12.04 mln ha, the production of the grain can reach 12.7 mln tonnes, which is 11% lower year-on-year.
Also, it should be noted that there is a high demand on Kazakh wheat from traditional target markets. Thus, in order to cover this demand and form stable export potential, the forecasted decline of wheat production in Kazakhstan can be compensated by higher imports of grain from Russia – to 1.2 mln tonnes (up 2.1 times to import estimate in 2020/21 MY).
