In Ukraine, 42.05% of the export shipments of wheat are contaminated with head smut (Tilletia levis Kuhn, Tilletia tritici Wint), declared the President at the Phytosanitary Association of Ukraine, Vladyslav Sedyk during his report at the second conference "Grain exports from Ukraine" on November 2, in Kyiv.

He specified that the wheat disease is quarantined in such countries as Indonesia, Armenia, Syria and Brazil.

Low-quality seed material is the major reason for reproduction of head smut varieties. To date, the Association provides monitoring in basic agricultural enterprises of Ukrainian regions. But V.Sedyk believes that such monitoring is not quite correct, as each enterprise uses its certain agricultural technologies. As a result, the general monitoring indicators are low, and the number of notifications continues growing mass, noted the expert.

In addition, the Head of the Phytosanitary Association of Ukraine said 40% of the export shipments of barley are contaminated with dwarf smut, which is under quarantine in Canada, China, Israel, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Egypt, Qatar and Syria.
