According to forecasts of the Hydrometeorological Center of Ukraine, in 2012 the general grain harvest in Ukraine will be lower compared to last year, declaredTatyana Adamenko, Head of the agricultural meteorology department of the Hydrometeorological Center,at the eleventh international conference "Grain Forum - 2012" on June 8.

According to her, the adverse weather conditions that evolved throughout the whole 2011/12 MY became the reason of such situation.

T.Adamenko noted that, according to preliminary forecasts, the general harvest of winter grains in Ukraine will total 14.5 mln tonnes, in the terms of winter wheat yield of 2.6 t/ha, winter barley - 2.1 t/ha, winter rye - 1.9 t/ha.

Also, the adverse weather conditions, especially drought, provided the impact on growing of early spring grains, resulting in accelerated phased vegetation of grains, which clearly affect the yield of these crops and subsequently on the harvest results, said T.Adamenko.

She also noted that since June 9 Ukraine expects for rising of air temperatures, the dry weather. In particular, the situation applies to the southern region and areas of the center. The temperature will reach 25-30 degrees, in some cases - 35. The weather will last until June 20.

At the same time, in the western and northern parts of the country the Hydrometeorological Center observes the opposite situation - the period of rains.
