According to the USDA estimation, the barley production in Turkey nearly halved to 4.5 mln tonnes in 2021/22 MY due to the dry weather. It is the lowest crop since 2014/15 MY.

In April forecast, the USDA cut the Turkish domestic consumption of barley to 7.3 mln tonnes in 2021/22 MY, down 18% y/y.

Despite the lower consumption, sharp crop reduction requires higher imports. In 2021/22 MY, Turkey may import record 2.8 mln tonnes of barley, up by 2 mln tonnes y/y.

In June-November, Turkey imported 1.7 mln tonnes of barley, including 668 thsd tonnes from Ukraine, 665 thsd tonnes from Russian and 240 thsd tonnes from Romania.

More detailed information about the prospects of global trade with grains and oilseeds as well as by-products you can get at the international conference GRAIN&MARITIME DAYS 2022 IN ISTANBUL on May 25.
