According to the official estimate of planted areas, wheat production started to recover in Turkey since the last year, however, the import remains rather high, declared the Vice Chairman of the Board, International Turkish Ukrainian Business Association, Ali Bulut within GMD Conference 2020: Summer Edition on August 20.
“As Turkey is a leading world exporter of flour and the second largest supplier of pasta, it imports large volumes of wheat. Turkey doubled flour export over the last 10 years and increase the shipments of pasta by 6 times”, - he said.
The expert pointed out that as of today 550 mills operate in Turkey and process 13 mln tonnes of wheat annually. At the same times, the facilities are half-loaded while the overall processing capacity is about 30 mln tonnes.
“The country has large potential. Ukraine needs to compete with Russia on the Turkish market. Turkish importers usually purchase high-protein wheat, however, they started to increase import of 10.5% protein wheat in the recent years that gives more chances for Ukraine to strengthen its position on Turkish market”, - A.Bulut explained.
