Kazakhstan exported 137.5 thsd tonnes of flaxseed over three months of 2020/21 MY compared to 152.5 thsd tonnes of the same period of 2019/20 MY, declared the founder of group of companies Severnoe Zerno LLC, expert of the Kazakh Grain Union, Evgeny Karabanov within Kazakh Oilseed Summit: Online Edition on January 21.
At the same time, he pointed out the changes in export geography of Kazakh flaxseed.
“Kazakhstan did not export flaxseed to China in 2018/19 MY. Kazakh exporters got the asses to Chinese market in late 2019. It has changed the whole picture. Thus, Kazakhstan supplied 104.3 thsd tonnes of flaxseed to China in 2019/20 MY. Over three months of 2020/21 MY, export of Kazakh flaxseed to China almost reached 51 thsd tonnes or nearly a half of total volume supplied in the preceding season”, - E. Karabanov explained.
He added that the export of Kazakh flaxseed is declining to traditional destinations like Belgium and Poland. The share of these counties used to be 68% in the total volume of Kazakh flaxseed exported. It decreased to 54% in 2019/20 MY.
“We expect Kazakhstan to export about 540 thsd tonnes of flaxseed in 2020/21 MY, including 150 thsd tonnes destined to China”, - the expert added.
