Export of Kazakh barley will decline to 950 thsd tonnes in 2020/21 MY compared to 1.4 mln tonnes in 2019/20 MY and more than 1.7 mln tonnes in 2018/19 MY, declared General director, VKZ-Agro LLP, Alexander Malov within KAZAKHSTAN GRAIN CONFERENCE 2020: ONLINE EDITION organized by APK-Inform on November 26.
The main reason of export decline will be lower share of feed wheat in the crop structure this year.
“We expect the growth of inner consumption of barley in Kazakhstan this year as we have very small production of feed wheat. Barley is the main substitution for feed wheat in Kazakhstan. Thus, the export potential of barley will decline and prices will grow amid high spread between prices of feed barley and feed wheat”, - A.Malov explained.
The expert added that China and Iran will be the secondary markets this season and will not have significant influence on prices. At the same time, the supply of Kazakh barley to China will reach 220 thsd tonnes compared to 50 thsd tonnes in two preceding seasons.
