According to the Customs Control Committee at the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in January-September of 2017 Iran imported 28.1 thsd tonnes of oilseed crops from Kazakhstan (6% of the general oilseeds exports from the country). In the same period of 2016, the exports of Kazakh oilseeds in the reporting destination totaled 3.7 thsd tonnes only.
Iran mainly requires rapeseed and sunflower seed supplies, and since the beginning of 2017 the country imported 12.2 thsd tonnes tonnes and 11.4 thsd tonnes from Kazakhstan, respectively. At the same time, In January-September of 2016 Iran imported 3.6 thsd tonnes of rapeseed from Kazakhstan, and did not purchase sunflower seed at all.
Also, Iran increased its share in the export structure of oilseed meals from Kazakhstan. During nine months of 2016, Iran purchased 2.7 thsd tonnes of Kazakh sunflower and rapeseed meals (9% of the general supplied volumes), but in the same period of 2017 the figures increased in 2.3 times, to 6.1 thsd tonnes (16%).
