During several recent years, China became one of the main countries-importers of oilseeds and vegetable oils from Kazakhstan. In 2016/17 MY, the share of China in the general structure of oilseed crops exports reached 21%, and vegetable oils - 64%. Sunflower seed formed the largest volumes among the Kazakh oilseeds supplied to China - 101.15 thsd tonnes, or 37% of the general exported volumes of the oilseed.
Sunflower oil took the leading share in the structure of vegetable oils exports - 23.59 thsd tonnes (and the share of exports to China - 64%), and flaxseed oil took the second position - 12.5 thsd tonnes (89%).
Generally, in 2016/17 MY the export volumes of oilseed products from Kazakhstan to China totaled 150.26 thsd tonnes of oilseeds (sunflower seed, soybeans, cotton seed, and other oilseeds) and 40.90 thsd tonnes of vegetable oils (sunflower, flaxseed, soybean, rapeseed oils).
Taking into account the growing demand of China in oilseed products, the potential of the Kazakh market, the convenient logistics, the prospect for further increasing of supplies from Kazakhstan are quite real. In addition, it is worth noting that China is ready to invest in the production of vegetable oils meeting the Chinese requirements and preferences at the territory of Kazakhstan, with the following imports of the products. Thus, in mid-October the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Askar Myrzakhmetov, held a meeting with representatives of several Chinese companies, and discussed the opportunities of increasing of the mutual trade rates and investments in the fat-and-oil industry of Kazakhstan.
Within frames of the first international fat-and-oil conference of Kazakhstan "KazOil 2017" (November 29, Astana), the session 2 includes a report about the trends and features of the oilseed market in China. A representative of the leading agro-industrial group in Asia, Wilmar International Limited, is the speaker of the report.
