The growth of wheat, corn and barley exports from Ukraine and Russia, expected in 2019/20 MY, can meet the rising demand for the grains in some MENA countries, reported the Head of conference department at APK-Inform Agency, Irina Ozip, during her report within frames of the international conference "Middle East Grains&Oils Congress: Beirut edition", on September 18.

In the season-2019/20, Ukraine and Russia can jointly supply nearly 95.4 mln tonnes of wheat, barley and corn on foreign markets, as opposed to 91.5 mln tonnes last season. At the same time, in terms of the expected growth of grain imports by some MENA countries, in particular Morocco and Saudi Arabia, Ukraine and Russia can increase their presence in the reporting region, the expert said.

In particular, it is expected that Morocco will increase the imports of barley to 1.2 mln tonnes, up 1 mln tonnes compared with 2018/19 MY, due to reduction of the domestic production in the country. At the same time, in the current season Saudi Arabia can increase the imports of barley to 8 mln tonnes (up 1.2 mln tonnes), and corn — to 5.5 mln tonnes (up 1 mln tonnes).
