Since the beginning of the current season (July-October of 2018/19 MY), the general supplies of the major grain crops (wheat and corn) from Ukraine and Russia to North African countries totaled almost 4.9 mln tonnes, an increase of 6% compared with the same period of 2017/18 MY (4.6 mln tonnes). In the reporting period, Russian grains covered nearly 66% in the shipment structure, and Ukrainian grains — 34%.

Traditionally, Egypt became the key country-importer in the region, and purchased nearly 74% of the general supplied volumes. In particular, in the current season the share of Egypt covered 34% of Ukrainian grain supplies to the North African region, and 91% of Russian grains. In addition, in the reporting region Libya, Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria are actively purchasing Black Sea grains. According to the USDA estimations, the average annual imports of wheat and corn to the reporting countries totals 45 mln tonnes. It is expected that in the current season Egypt will increase the general imports of two grain crops to 22.2 mln tonnes (21.8 mln tonnes in 2017/18 MY), or almost 50% of the general supplies to the region.

You can receive more detailed information about the prospects of grain supplies from the Black Sea region, within frames of the international conference Middle East Grains&Oils Congress, to be held on March 11-12, in Cairo, Egypt.
