In 2018/19 MY, the general production of wheat in countries of the Black Sea region (Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria) will cover nearly 17% of the global production, or 122.1 mln tonnes, declared the Head of analytics at Marcopolo Commodities SA, Adviser to the President of the Ukrainian Grain Association, Elena Neroba during her report within frames of the international conference Middle East Grains & Oils Congress in Cairo, Egypt, on March 11.
At the same time, in the reporting period barley production in the region is expected to reach 26.3 mln tonnes (19% of the global production), and corn — 66.1 mln tonnes (6%).
In the current season, the general import volumes of Black Sea wheat will decline to 24.7 mln tonnes (down 1.93%) due to reduction of the supplies to such countries as Turkey — to 5.3 mln tonnes (down 13.53%), Iraq — 4.2 mln tonnes (down 2.23%), Saudi Arabia — 3.4 mln tonnes (down 1.16%), the United Arab Emirates — 1.8 mln tonnes (down 1.74%), and Yemen — 3 mln tonnes (down 0.29%). At the same time, the supplies of corn and barley will increase to 21.3 mln tonnes (up 4.29%) and 13.5 mln tonnes (up 3.23%) respectively, she said.
