For 20 recent years, Ukraine transformed from the country-importer into the acknowledged leader in the global fat-and-oil industry, declared the General Director at the association Ukroliyaprom, Stepan Kapshuk during his report within frames of the conference "Fat-and-Oil Industry - 2018" in Kyiv, on November 6.
Since 1998, the country already launched 60 new enterprises, including 40 large-scale ones, 16 terminals for transshipment of vegetable oils, and various enterprises started modernizing works, as well as the fat-and-oil industry attracted more than 3 bln USD of investments. Oilseed processing capacities in Ukraine increased from 2.5 mln tonnes in 1998, to 22 mln tonnes in early 2018, or up 8.8 times, said the expert.
Also, S.Kapshuk noted that the current capacities for oilseed processing in Ukraine allow processing almost the whole harvest volumes of soybeans, rapeseed and sunflower seed, produced in the country.
To date, soybean processing capacities already reached 5.44 mln tonnes per year, and rapeseed — more than 2 mln tonnes. However, in terms of the mass exports of the reporting oilseeds, the processing capacities are usually loaded by 16% only. At the same time, Ukraine also produces soybean and rapeseed oils, as well as meals, which are rather popular on the global market, especially in the EU countries. Ukrainian producers and exporters of vegetable oils and oilseed meals can satisfy all supply orders for the products both on the domestic and foreign markets, said the Head of the Association.
As for the growth rates of Ukrainian sunflower oil production, S.Kapshuk added that for 20 recent years the figures increased in 15.3 times, while the exports increased in 28.4 times.
The upward dynamics of the constant development trend of the industry became the main result, the speaker concluded.
