Since 2017, the premiums for high-oleic sunflower oil in the world started demonstrating the upward trend, and reached its peak in July-August of 2018. The reporting trend will stimulate the further growth of planted areas under high-oleic sunflower seed in 2019 in the main countries-producers of the oilseed, declared the Head on development of business solutions for agricultural processing in the CIS countries at Syngenta, Sergei Tymoshenko during his report within frames of the conference "Fat-and-Oil Industry - 2018" in Kyiv, on November 6.

At the same time, he specified that the deficit of supply of high-oleic sunflower oil, as well as the significant reduction of prices for standard sunflower oil, contributed to the growth of the premiums.

In particular, Syngenta forecasted the growth of the planted areas under high-oleic sunflower seed in France in 2019 to 370-400 thsd ha, against 345 thsd ha in 2018. Thus, the share of high-oleic sunflower seed in the general areas under sunflower can reach 70%, while the areas under standard sunflower will continue declining, the expert said.

Also, S.Tymoshenko forecasted that in the following year, in countries of the Iberian peninsula (Spain, Portugal) the planted areas under high oleic sunflower seed will increase to 236-270 thsd ha, against 197 thsd ha in the current year, in Argentina — to 240-270 thsd ha (180 thsd ha), in Hungary — to 144-175 thsd ha (120 thsd ha), and in Ukraine — to 350-400 thsd ha (300 thsd ha).

The premiums for high-oleic sunflower oil will to remain at the high level (200-250 USD/t) until ending of the harvesting campaign in 2019, as it will be possible to make up for the deficit of high-oleic sunflower oil for the global consumption only in terms of the record high yield figures, the analyst added.
