To date, nearly one quarter of the global population lives in Africa and the Persian Gulf countries, which allows to consider the reporting regions as quite prospective ones for selling of sunflower oil, declared the expert at AMC Overseas, Suvra Chakraborty during his report within frames of the conference "Fat-and-Oil Industry - 2018" in Kyiv, on November 6.

In particular, the current growth of the population with quite high incomes in the Persian Gulf countries allows characterizing the region as very attractive, and also very difficult, because of the stiff barriers for entry into the market of various import suppliers, and quite specific consumer preferences. For example, in Saudi Arabia the packing of 1.8 liters is the most popular volume of bottled sunflower oil (60-70% of the product on supermarket shelves), the speaker said.

According to S.Chakraborty, in Africa small-scale retailing is more developed, which also requires the certain features of packaging.

For example, in Nigeria, the most booming economy on the continent, there are nearly 1.5 mln points of purchase, and sales in supermarkets cover 5-6% of the total turnover only. At the same time, the average Nigerian makes grocery shopping nearly 54 times per month, he said.

Therefore, the supplier will manage to achieve success on the reporting markets only taking cue from the local needs, which are significantly different from the usual Ukrainian or Russian mode of thinking, and meet them. At the same time, Turkey successfully realizes such policy, and already became the leader in the supply of sunflower oil to countries of the reporting regions, the speaker concluded.
