Representatives of the German analytical agency Oil World published the first forecast of sunflower seed production in Ukraine in 2012/13 MY. Thus, according to their forecasts, if the expansion of sowing areas under the oilseed to reach the level of 5.6 mln ha, and the yield at 17.1 c/ha, the production volume of sunflower in Ukraine in the new season may beat the last year record of 9.2 mln tonnes and achieve the level of 9.4 mln tonnes.

However, the more pessimistic scenario is also quite possible. In the case of sunflower seed sowings in the country during the reporting period reaching the level of 5.4 mln ha, and yield of 16.6 c/ha, the general production of the oilseed will show a decline of 4% - to 8.8 mln tonnes.

As a reminder, in early April of 2012 analysis of APK-Inform Agency published its first forecast of sunflower seed production in Ukraine in 2012/13 MY. In particular, experts expect that the production volume of the oilseed in the country in the reporting period may increase by 7% per year and reach the level of nearly 10 mln tonnes with the average yield through the country of 19.6 c/ha.
