On June 6, it was totally clear that the forecast of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine concerning the sunflower seed areas in the country in 2012/13 MY was undervalued. Until that date Ukrainian agrarians planted sunflower throughout 4.21 mln ha, which already exceeded the Ministry forecast by 2.9%, and the last year rates by 7.8%. The TOP-3 oblasts-producers are the following ones: Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhya and Kirovograd (457 thsd ha, 447.9 thsd ha and 415 thsd ha, respectively). Herewith, APK-Inform analysts expect that the areas under Ukrainian sunflower seed in 2012/13 MY will reach the record level of 5.2 mln ha.
As for Russia, the areas under sunflower in 2012/13 MY faced certain decrease. As of June 6, Russian agrarians planted sunflower seed throughout 6.1 mln ha, which represented 94% of the Ministry forecast of 6.5 mln ha, but falls short of the result of the same period a year ago (7.14 mln ha).
