EU forced to look for the alternative to soybean meal

The last week of April was marked by the unprecedented increase of the futures for soybeans and soybean meal on the CBOT Mercantile Exchange. In the terms of the information about the new worsening of prospects for the next soybean harve3st in South America, the price of soybean quotations with delivery terms in May reached 549.9 USD/t - the highest level since 2008, while soybean meal - 45-week maximum level - 471.13 USD/t.

In the terms of the constant rise of prices for soybeans and soybean meal, analysts of Oil World forecast reduction of the world import rates of soybeans in 2011/12 MY to the level of 58 mln tonnes (down 0.8 mln tonnes per year). In particular, the countries of the EU-27 are going to "tighten their belts", in the reporting period the EU plans to reduce their consumption of these products by 1.1 mln tonnes a year - to 31.5 mln tonnes. Producers of animal feed will be forced to change the separate volumes of soybean towards feed grains. The similar trend is also planned in the countries of Asia, Africa and Central America.

In their turn, China, India and Brazil do not intend to reduce the consumption of soybean meal and actively use the product in the pig and poultry farming.
