In 2011 Turkey imported 1.3 mln tonnes of soybeans and 520 thsd tonnes of soybean meal. Paraguay (28%), Brazil (25%), the USA (23%), Ukraine (12%), Argentina (10%) were the main suppliers of soybeans in Turkey, informed Ibrahim Ertekin, Coordinator for Foreign Trade of Alyans Co., during the international conference "Ukrainian soybean market - 2012”.

He also noted that in the I quarter of 2012 imports of soybean meal to Turkey tripled to 318 thsd tonnes against the same period in 2011. At the same time, imports of soybeans reduced by 20% compared to 2011.

Since September 2011 to February 2012 Ukraine supplied 55 thsd tonnes of soybeans to Turkey, but during the entire 2010/11 MY - 87.9 thsd tonnes.

According I.Ertekin, Ukraine should switch to the exports of soybean meal instead of soybeans not to lose own share on the Turkish market. He also stressed that Ukrainian exporters should insist that agricultural producers improve the quality of soybeans.
