Ukraine to reduce grain production by 4%, and the exports - down 6% - R.Rybchinskiy

Analysts of APK-Inform Agency estimated the production volumes of grains and pulses in Ukraine in 2014/15 MY at the level of 60.6 mln tonnes, a decrease of 4% compared with the record volumes of last season (63.1 mln tonnes), declared Rodion Rybchinskiy, Head of Business Projects Division of APK-Inform Agency, on September 8 during his report “Production and prospects of Ukrainian grain exports in 2014/15 MY” within the First round of the V Ukrainian Grain Congress, held in Paris.

Also, he noted that the structure of grain harvest in the current season was characterized by increasing of wheat production - to 23.3 mln tonnes (up 5%), and barley - to 8.9 mln tonnes (up 18 %), compared with the previous MY.

At the same time, maize production is forecasted at the level of 26.3 mln tonnes (down 15% compared with last year), against 30.9 mln tonnes. Also, the item of other grains will show declining of the production volumes (down 5%) to the level of 2.1 mln tonnes, said the expert.

As for the prospects of grain distribution in the current season, R.Rybchinskiy noted that there is expected the increase of domestic grain consumption to the level of 30.7 mln tonnes (30.3 mln tonnes in 2013/14 MY), due to growing of forage production volumes. The expert estimated the export potential of the grain market in 2014/15 MY at 30.5 mln tonnes, down 6% compared with the record results of 2013/14 MY (32.3 mln tonnes).
