Soybean crop produced in the south of Ukraine is actually being the genetically modified crop, whereas Ukraine represents as a GMO-free country, declared Sergiy Khlan, Member of the Committee on Agrarian Policy and Land Relations at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, at the Ukrainian-American Agrarian Congress on March 25.
It is the fact on actual basis. So, the illegally imported GM oilseed material mutates, and Ukrainian agrarians receive unknown variety reproduction, which results in yield losses, and fall of soybean selection strategy, he said.
Therefore, the fact of the GM crops production in Ukraine must be officially recognized, as the first step to solve the problem. Followed by major efforts to bring the Ukrainian legislation in the sphere in balance with the general global standards, declared S.Khlan.
