In 2022/23 MY (September-February) an export of sunflower seeds from Ukraine reached a historic high – 1.54 mln tonnes. According to APK-Inform Agency, with reference to the operational data, nearly 80% of the total exports of the oilseed went to the EU countries and 19% – to Turkey.
The leaders among the importers include Bulgaria (429 thsd tonnes with a share of 28%) and Romania (406 thsd tonnes; 26%).
It should be noted that for the past several months the export of sunflower seeds from Ukraine gradually declines, caused by lower demand and prices from importers, due to the sufficient supplies of the oilseed in Europe, particularly in the east. It is also affected by the higher load on logistics when exporting through the western border of Ukraine.
At the same time, the work of the “grain corridor” remain complicated, which significantly limits domestic processing and contributes to the further active supply of Ukrainian sunflowerseeds on the export market.
According to APK-Inform, in the SH of 2022/23 MY Ukraine can export another 800-900 thsd tonnes of sunflower seeds.
