By the start of the second ten day period of October, 60-65% of areas has got the sufficient moisture content for autumn vegetation of winter crops in Ukraine, declared the Head of the Agrometeorology department at the Ukrainian hydrometeorological center, Tetyana Adamenko.
«Summer air temperature (daily average higher than 15°C) and good soil moisture content are perfect to get sprouts in 6-8 days after planting. Such conditions are essential for crops as they can enter the wintering developed properly», - she said.
T.Adamenko pointed out that there are areas with excessive moisture content. Planting campaign could not be completed here. At the same time, drought remains across eastern Ukraine.
She said that the cold snap will come to Ukraine on October 17-18 and daytime temperature will decline to 8-10°C, nighttime temperature – to 1-2°C.
«Development of winter crops will be slow or absent when the cold snap arrives. We need to have warm November to save the situation», - the expert added.
