In the first ten-day period of October, agrometeorological conditions were spotty for growth and development of winter crops and completion of harvesting of late crops in Ukraine. The level of usefulness of the conditions depended on the moisture content of the top-soil and the amount of effective heat for proper development of winter crops, informed Ukrhydromet.
“Dry and chill weather was unwanted for planting campaign, sprouting and autumn development of winter crops. Accumulation of effective heat needed for winter crop development was progressing slower than the year ago. Therefore, the development of plants delayed”, - the experts said.
Additionally, the deficit of precipitation resulted in wider area with unsatisfactory soil moisture content. The deficit of rains was observed in most oblasts since early September. There were no rains at all in the first ten-day period of October.
“Such conditions lay the groundwork for winter crops to stop vegetation underdeveloped and vulnerable for unfavorable wintering if any”, - they added.
