In 2023, the estimated grain, pulses, and cereals production in Ukraine, taking into account the areas of winter crops for grain, planted in autumn and the planting areas of spring crops in all categories of farms, may decrease to approximately 49.6 mln tonnes compared to 53.1 mln tonnes collected in 2022. This forecast was announced by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center based on the results of the analysis of agrometeorological conditions for the formation of productivity of the main grains and pulses.
According to experts, the agrometeorological conditions for the formation of the crop harvest this year in Ukraine turned out to be satisfactory. However, during the growing season, some unfavorable periods were observed, which could have a negative impact on yield. These are excessive rains in April, that resulted in waterlogged soil in the fields of a number of regions, creating difficult conditions for carrying out and completing the planting of early spring grains and pulses at the optimal time.
"Analysis of the peculiarities of the meteorological conditions of the vegetation of grains and pulses, the condition of crops, available reserves of productive moisture in the soil, and agrometeorological calculations give reasons to expect that the yield of grains in 2023 will be (in t/ha): winter wheat – 4.3, winter rye – 3.2, winter barley – 3.5, spring barley – 3.2, spring wheat – 3.7, oats – 2.5, peas – 2.3, corn – 6.5, millet - 2.1, buckwheat - 1.1", the report states.
