Kazakh wheat export up almost 25% in 2020/21 MY

According to the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in 2020/21 MY, the country increased wheat export by 24.2% compared to the preceding season to 5.8 mln tonnes.

Uzbekistan remained the largest importer of Kazakh wheat. It bought 3.2 mln tonnes of the grain, up 1.45 times compared to 2019/20 MY. The share of Uzbekistan amounted to 56% on the overall Kazakh wheat export in 2020/21 MY. It was 48% in 2019/20 MY.

At the same time, Kazakhstan increased wheat import by 21.2% to 0.6 mln tonnes in 2020/21 MY. It is 10.3 times higher compared to 2018/19 MY and is the record high level of wheat import. Russia supplied virtually whole this volume.

APK-Inform forecasts that Kazakhstan will export 5.3 mln tonnes of wheat in 2021/22 MY, down 8.2% year-on-year.
