Global production of wheat flour is growing. At the same time, the world trade in flour is declining, declared Rodion Rybchinskiy, PhD in Grain Processing Technology, International expert with FAO within Asia Grains&Oils Conference in Qazaqstan organized by APK-Inform on November 17-18.

“Starting from 2017/18 MY, the trade in flour has been declining gradually. It decreased to 12.5 mln tonnes (4.8 bln USD) in 2020/21 MY. There are two main factors pressuring the trade. Firstly, some logistical chains were virtually stopped last season. Secondly, there is a higher demand for wheat. Many countries that used to buy flour now are turning to wheat, as it can be stored longer and transportation is easier”, – he explained.

The global trade in flour will grow slightly this season on better logistics. However, some problems are still here, like container freight cost, lack of containers, etc.
