Ukraine reduced the export of oilseeds and increased the external shipments of oils

In January-June 2020, Ukraine exported oilseeds at the sum of 326 mln USD, a decrease of 47.4% compared with the same period of 2019, declared the Deputy Director at the National scientific center “Institute of Agrarian Economics”, Academician of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences (NAAS), Nikolai Pugachev, on July 29.

Soybean was the main export oilseed product. Its shipment exceeded 0.8 mln tonnes at the sum of 289 mln USD (89% of total oilseeds export). Export of rapeseed totaled 18 thsd tonnes and 7 mln USD, sunflower seed – 33 thsd tonnes and 14 mln USD.

Turkey remained the leading importer of Ukrainian oilseeds. In January-June, it imported Ukrainian oilseeds at the sum of 65 mln USD (19.6%). Belarus (16.4%), Greece (9%), Italy (8.5%), Germany (6.6%), Lebanon (6.1%), the Netherlands (5.6%) and China (4.5%) were large importers as well. The common share of these countries exceeded 76% of the total gain from oilseed export.  

“In the first half of 2020, Ukraine exported oils and fats at the sum exceeding 2.9 bln USD, up 24% compared to the same period of 2019”, - N.Pugachev said.

Sunflower oil remained the key export product – 2.7 bln USD, up 24%.

“Traditionally, India is the main importer of Ukrainian oils and fats. In January-June, its share reached 23.6%”, - the expert added.

Significant volumes of Ukrainian oils and fats were supplied to China (15.8%), the Netherlands (8.8%), Iraq (7.6%), Spain (7.3%) and Italy (5.3 %). Their total share exceeded 68% of the total profit.
