In the 1Q, 2023, Kazakhstan's trade with Uzbekistan amounted to $1.1 billion. According to official statistics, this is 5.2% higher year-on-year.
The lion's share of turnover (76.7%) accounted for exports from the Republic of Kazakhstan. During this period, the volume of exports increased by 0.9% to $821.3 mln, and imports reached $248.9 mln (+22.6%).
It should be noted that in January-March 2023, the largest volume of exports from Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan (in monetary terms) accounted for wheat and meslin – $237.6 mln. This is 5.3% higher y-o-y.
Fertilizers, wheat flour, oil, and fat products became other main export goods.
Trade between the countries can grow even more: to increase throughput, the Kazakh and Uzbek customs authorities have agreed to switch to an enhanced mode of operation.
According to APK-Inform with reference to official statistics, Kazakhstan exported about 2.7 mln tonnes of wheat to Uzbekistan in 8 months of 2022/23 (compared to 2.05 mln tonnes in the same period last season). Thus, Uzbekistan remains the top importer of Kazakh grain.
