According to preliminary estimations of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, in 2014 the general production of grains and pulses in the country may reach 62.1 mln tonnes, a decrease of 1.4% compared with the record harvest of 2013.
In particular, the Ministry expects that the harvest of early grains in the current year will reduce by 1% - to 30.9 mln tonnes. At the same time, the harvest of winter and spring wheat may reach the level of 21.2 mln tonnes (down 4.7% compared with 2013), winter and spring barley - 8.3 mln tonnes (up 10%), maize - 30.2 mln tonnes (down 2.2%).
In addition, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy forecasted a reduction of sunflower seed harvest in 2014 by 15.4% - to 9.3 mln tonnes. In the current year the general harvest of soybeans may grow by 6.7% - to 2.9 mln tonnes, winter and spring rapeseed - down 12.9%, to nearly 2.1 mln tonnes.
