Russia planted spring grains throughout 2.5 mln ha

As of April 17, 2014, agrarians of Russia already planted spring crops throughout the areas of 3.8 mln ha (7.2% of the forecast), an increase of 1 mln ha compared with the same date of 2013. In particular, the planted areas of spring grains totaled nearly 2.5 mln ha (7.7% of the forecast), up 0.7 mln ha compared with the same index of April 17, 2013, declared the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

It should be noted that the Southern Federal District already held the planting campaign throughout 1.5 mln ha (or 23.9% of the forecast), the North Caucasian Federal District - 466.7 thsd ha (28.7%), the Central Federal District - 1.6 mln ha (16.5%), the Far Eastern Federal District – 108.8 thsd ha (7.3%), the Northwestern Federal District - 18.9 thsd ha (3.7%), the Crimea – 125.5 thsd ha (42.7%).

As of the reporting date, agrarians planted spring wheat throughout the areas of 151.7 thsd ha (1.2% of the forecast), up 119.1 thsd ha compared with April 17, 2013; spring barley – 1.5 mln ha (17% of the forecast), up 0.5 mln ha. The planted areas of maize reached 261.7 thsd ha (10.1% of the forecast).

Also, agrarians planted sunflower seed throughout 500.1 thsd ha (7.2%), up 102.1 thsd ha compared with 2013.

Russia planted spring rapeseed throughout 21.4 thsd ha (2% of the forecast), up 7.9 thsd ha.

Krasnodar Krai, the Crimea and Tambov oblast continued planting soybeans. The planted areas already reached 15.8 thsd ha (0.9% of the forecast).
