Ukraine: APK-Inform to not change its forecast on grain harvest in 2014
According to analysts of APK-Inform Agency, in 2014 the general grain harvest in Ukraine will total 57.4 mln tonnes, which completely meets the previously announced forecast, declared Rodion Rybchinskiy, Head of Business Projects Division of APK-Inform Agency, on July 31 within the press-conference "Conditions and prospects of the grain market of Ukraine in 2014/15 MY".
He called the decline of the planted areas under grain crops due to unfavorable weather conditions during the winter crops planting campaign, isolation of the planted areas in the Crimea, and difficult political and economic situation in the country, as the main factors which cause formation of the harvest volumes in the current year.
At the same time, favorable agro-climatic conditions during the period of vegetation allow to receive rather high yield indices even in terms of low financing of agricultural production in the country, said R.Rybchinskiy.
The expert added that due to rainy weather in some regions of the country during the harvesting campaign, agrarians harvest grains with high moisture content, which requires additional drying, resulting in lowering of the yield level.
In addition, the expert noted that some fields remain unharvested, due to active military operations in Donetsk and Lugansk oblasts.
Also, R.Rybchinskiy added that in the current year Ukraine is expected to reduce the production volumes of some niche crops, including buckwheat, rice and peas.
