Ukraine: sunflower seed harvest to reach nearly 10 mln tonnes – S.Kapshuk
The Association Ukroliyaprom forecasts the production volumes of sunflower seed in Ukraine in the current year at the level of 10 mln tonnes, declared Stepan Kapshuk, General Director of the Association.
According to him, in 2013/14 MY Ukraine processed nearly 10.5 mln tonnes of sunflower seed. Generally, in Ukraine sunflower oil production will total 4.5 mln tonnes, the exports – 4-4.1 mln tonnes. But it is just preliminary data, since the data for August are unavailable yet, said S.Kapshuk.
Also, he noted that the sunflower seed areas in Lugansk and Donetsk oblasts total nearly 800 thsd ha from the general areas of 5 mln ha throughout the whole Ukraine for the harvest-2014.
According S.Kapshuk, despite the difficult situation in eastern oblasts, the oil-extraction plant in Slavyansk (JSC Slavyanskoliya) started the new season, but work of the plants in Mariupol, Donetsk, Svatovo is open to question.
It is possible that 1 mln tonnes of the oilseed will be processed in other oblasts, due to the reporting situation, said the General Director of Ukroliyaprom.
He added that according to preliminary data, in 2013/14 MY Ukraine processed nearly 800 thsd tonnes of soybeans, and in 2014/15 MY the index will total 1-1.2 mln tonnes in terms of the oilseed production volumes of 3.5 mln tonnes.
