According to figures of the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat), in 2017/18 MY the planted areas under mustard seed in Russia decreased by 13.4% compared with the previous season, and reached the minimum figures for several recent years — 156.5 thsd ha. At the same time, in 2017 the harvest volumes exceeded the previous year results by 35%, and reached 98.3 thsd tonnes. Russia managed to reach the figures, due to a significant increase of the yield, from 0.55 t/ha in 2016/17 MY, to 0.72 t/ha.
APK-Inform analysts forecasted that in 2018/19 MY the planted areas under Russian mustard seed will grow to the level of the season-2016/17 — 180 thsd ha (up 15% compared with 2017/18 MY). In terms of the forecasted yield at 0.69 t/ha, the harvest volumes will remain at the level of the current season — almost 100 thsd tonnes. The analysts estimated the export potential of mustard seed in 2018/19 MY at the level of 50 thsd tonnes, which also meets to the current season figures.
