In 2019, Russia will reduce the production of buckwheat compared with last year, due to the late planting campaign of the grain in the southern part of Western Siberia, declared the Head of the Hydrometeorological Centre of the Russian Federation (Roshydromet), Roman Vilfand on July 9.

According to him, the situation with buckwheat is quite difficult. In the South of Western Siberia, especially in Altai Krai, agrarians planted buckwheat in very late terms, because the weather conditions were quite unsuitable. In nearly one month, it will be possible to give more accurate forecast, but it is high probability that the buckwheat harvest will be less than last year.

Russia is the largest global producer of buckwheat, while almost half of the grain planted areas in the country is located in Altai Krai.
