The Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine revised down its forecast of grain production in 2020 to nearly 70 mln tonnes compared to previously expected 72.1 mln tonnes, informed the press-service of the Ministry on August 19.

The decrease of the overall grain output was caused by lowering of corn crop expectations by 2 mln tonnes to 35 mln tonnes.

“The weather conditions were unfavorable for corn in recent weeks. If autumn weather would be good, corn crop could reach 35 mln tonnes and total grain production - 70 mln tonnes”, - commented the Deputy Minister for Development of Economy, Taras Vysotskyi.

The largest loss of corn crop was caused by the adverse weather in Cherkasy (throughout 133.8 thsd ha), Odessa (33.5 thsd ha) and Kirovograd (21.3 thsd tonnes) oblasts. The most significant yield decline is observed in Cherkasy (234 thsd ha), Kirovograd (146.7 thsd ha) and Poltava (120.5 thsd ha) oblasts.
