In 2022, the production of grain will not exceed 60 mln tonnes in Ukraine, head of Ukrainian Agrarian Council Andriy Dykun said on August 19.

"This year's crop, which is already being harvested, will be 40% lower than last year's. The Ministry of Agriculture sees it at 68 mln tonnes, but we forecast production at 60 mln tonnes. The occupation of some southern regions played a role here. In addition, there is a drought in central Ukraine. At the same time, harvests are high in Donetsk oblast", – the expert said.

A. Dykun emphasized that Ukraine must make an "appropriate political decision” to prevent the harvest in the east of the country from falling to the Russian invaders hands.

"A political decision should be made to take grain to state elevators. In order not to give the crop to the occupiers under any circumstances. We are talking about hundreds of thousands, millions of tonnes of grain", – A. Dykun believes.

He also noted the importance of full-scale restoring of sea export of Ukrainian grain.

"Unblocking exports by sea will significantly strengthen the stability of the economy and alleviate the acuteness of the food crisis. But only under the condition of stable export of 6 mln tonnes of grain per month at least until March. Otherwise, farmers will not plant in spring", – A. Dykun summarized.
