Conditions of corn is close to critical in most regions of Ukraine and locally is critical due to adverse weather conditions. The experts of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine (NAAS) expect the corn crop loss will reach 30% in 2020, informed the press-service of the Academy on August 24.

The effective moisture content in a metre-deep layer of soil under corn was 24-42 mm as of the start of the second ten-day period of August across most of the territory. The moisture content was only 15-16 mm at the south of Dnipropetrovsk oblast.

“Thus moisture content will cause water deprivation and certain problems with grain filling, particularly, for late-planted corn as well as heavy seeding and foul fields”, - the experts pointed out.

The current weather conditions are unfavorable for crop formation and completion of corn vegetation due to abnormally long dry and hot weather with dry winds and low moisture content.

“The drought turned to the natural hazard”, - was emphasized in the message.
