Ukraine: winter planting campaign should be start on September 15 at the earliest

Scientists advise Ukrainian farmers not to start early planting of winter crops as the weather conditions of early September are unfavorable for the field works, declared the experts of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine (NAAS).

“As of early September, most of the territory of the country faced near-zero content of efficient moisture in the seed layer of soil. It is a bad practice to plant winter crops under such conditions as seeds will remain in the soil for a long time without sprouting and will lose their germinating ability. Sprouts are weak on such fields even after precipitation”, - the experts explained.

They supposed farmers have to start winter planting campaign on September 15 at the earliest and complete it on October 1-5 in dry soil (in the absence of rains).
