Spring planting campaign significantly delayed in Russia

As of April 8, Russian farmers planted spring agricultural crops throughout the general areas of 898.8 thsd ha or 1.7% of the forecast (4.3 mln ha year ago), declared the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

Particularly, farmers of Southern Federal District planted spring crops throughout 432.8 thsd ha or 8% of the plan, North Caucasian FD - throughout 431.8 thsd ha or 25.6%, Northwestern FD - 3 thsd ha or 0.7%, Far Eastern FD - 2.3 thsd ha or 0.1% and Central FD - 23.1 thsd ha or 0.2%.

In particular, farmers planted spring grains throughout 608.7 thsd ha or 2.1% of the forecasted area (2.9 mln ha in 2020), including wheat - 12 thsd ha or 0.1% of the forecast (427.5 thsd ha in 2020), barley - 207.3 thsd ha or 2.7% (1.6 mln ha in 2020), corn for grain - 0.3 thsd ha (7.2 thsd ha in 2020).

Farmers planted spring rapeseed throughout 1.2 thsd ha (out of forecasted 1.24 mln ha), sunflower seed - 0.9 thsd ha (out of forecasted 8.29 mln ha).

As of the reporting date, farmers of Southern and North Caucasian Federal Districts planted sugar beet throughout 49.8 thsd ha or 4.7% of the plan.

In addition, agrarians applied additional fertilizers to winter grains throughout 8.4 mln ha or 43.4% of the planted area (13 mln ha in 2020).
