According to the operative data, as of May 17, Russian farmers planted spring agricultural crops throughout the general areas of 29 mln ha or 56.3% of the forecast, declared the press-service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

“Russian farmers planted spring grain crops throughout the areas of 17 mln ha or 58.1% of the forecast. In particular, farmers planted wheat throughout 6.3 mln ha (49.6%), barley - 5.5 mln ha (71%), corn for grain - 2 mln ha (70.4%), rice - 95.2 thsd ha (49.6%)”, - was stated in the message.

Farmers planted spring rapeseed throughout 781.7 thsd ha (63%), sunflower seed - 5.4 mln ha (62.7%), soybean - 795.4 thsd ha (26.1%).

As of the reporting date, farmers planted sugar beet throughout 930 thsd ha or 87.6% of the plan.

In addition, agrarians applied additional fertilizers to winter grains throughout 16.5 mln ha or 85% of the planted area.
