According to USDA, the opening stocks of wheat will be the lowest in 10 years in Uzbekistan in 2022/23 MY – at 953 thsd tonnes, down from 1.4 mln tonnes in previous season. To cover domestic needs of 8.5 mln tonnes of wheat (8.45 mln tonnes in 2021/22 MY), Uzbekistan will have to import 3.5mln tonnes of the grain (3.2 mln tonnes in 2021/22MY).

According to APK-Inform, Kazakhstan exported 2.4 mln tonnes of wheat to Uzbekistan in July-April 2021/22 MY, down 13% y/y.

“USDA expects that wheat export potential (including by-products in grain equivalent) of Kazakhstan will decrease to 8 mln tonnes in 2022/23 MY from 8.2 mln tonnes in 2021/22 MY, partially due to low carry-over stocks. Thus, Uzbekistan will have to diversify wheat purchases”, – APK-Inform said.
