According to the current data, the export of Ukrainian sunflower oil in 2021/22 MY (September-August) decreased to the lowest since 2016/17 MY due to the full-scale Russia’s invasion and totaled 4.49 mln tonnes (-15% y/y).

As the seaports were blocked, the main flows of sunflower oil was headed to the European market. This factor together with significant price discount for Ukrainian oil resulted in stronger supplies of the product to Europe. In 2021/22 MY, Ukraine exported 1.84 mln tonnes of sunflower oil to the EU that was up by almost one-third y/y and turned to be the second largest volume after 2019/20 MY.

The EU became the largest destination for Ukrainian sunflower oil in 2021/22 MY with the share of 41% (27% in 2020/21 MY).

According to the European Commission, Ukraine accounted for 83% of the total import of sunflower oil to the EU in 2021/22 MY.
