In the first ten-day period of June 2019, in Ukraine there were observed warm, sometimes hot weather. The average daily temperature in southern and central parts of the country during the warmest days exceeded the July average rate and reached +23-26°C. The same temperature level in the beginning of June for the last 20 years of observations was recorded in 2011.
The rains were observed all over Ukraine. As in the previous period, the precipitation was mostly uneven and fluctuated from low in eastern and partly in northern and southern oblasts to severe in some regions of southern and central oblasts, where the level of precipitation reached high historical level in the first ten days and in certain days. In particular, the meteorological station Gaivoron (Kirovograd obl.) on June 5 the precipitation level in 6 hours and 35 minutes totaled 104 mm for the first time since 1945. In the first ten days the station observed the precipitation level at 209 mm (precipitation norm for nearly three months). The severe precipitation was observed in the meteorological station Nova Kakhovka (Kherson oblast) – 124 mm, the same rate was recorded only in 1997(for the full month).
All over Ukraine the intense rains were recorded that were classified as dangerous weather event of the first class, when in 12 hours the precipitation rate reached 15-29 mm.
Almost thought the country there were rains with thunder, hail, rain squall.
At the same time in several regions of eastern, northern and southern oblasts with lower or zero precipitation there were observed hot dry winds.
In the first 10 days the sunshine duration to the soil surface varied within 81-118 hours, which was within or 10-39 hours higher to average figures, in Kherson oblast this figure was within or 15 hours lower compared with the standard.
The average oblast air temperature was 3-4.8°C higher compared to the standard rates and totaled +19.0-23.7°C.
On the warmest days, the maximum air temperature reached +28...32°C, in southern, eastern, Dnipropetrovsk and Kyiv oblasts — +33…34°C. In most of the oblasts (except for Rivne, Khmelnitsky, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi oblasts) during 1-5 days, and in Lugansk, Zaporizhia, Donetsk and Kherson oblasts during 6-9 days the temperature exceeded +30°C.
In the coldest nights, the minimum air temperature declined to +8...12°C, while in southern, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovograd, Poltava, Cherkassy and Vinnitsa oblasts — 13...15°C.
At night, the soil surface temperature cooled to +6...13°C. On the warmest the soil surface heated to +41-66°C.
The precipitations of different intensity (low, moderate and severe) sometimes with thunder, hail, rain squall were observed for 1-7 days. In most oblasts, the average depth of precipitations totaled 125-200% of the standard (23-57 mm), while in Chernivtsi, Kirovograd, Mykolaiv and Kherson oblasts — 239-350% (36-98 mm).
In Volyn, Lviv, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts the ten-day depth of precipitations totaled 57-69% (8-10 mm), in Lugansk oblast – 7% (mm). In other oblasts the ten-day depth of precipitations was close to the standard rates. In some regions of Lugansk, Zakarpattia and Lviv oblasts there was zero precipitation.
In some regions of Mykolaiv and Odessa oblasts the ten-day depth of precipitations was 3-29 mm higher compared to the observations during the first ten days of June in 1961-2018, in Kherson with figure was 32-58 mm higher, in Gaivoron (Kirovohrad oblast) – by 92 mm.
The highest precipitation level in the first ten days was observed in Gaivoron (Kirovohrad oblast) – 209 m and in Nova Kakhovka (Kherson oblast) – 124 mm.
In the meteorological station in Ochakiv (Mykolaiv oblast) the daily maximum precipitation totaled 76 mm and reached the record high.
In the meteorological station in Gaivoron (Mykolaiv oblast) the daily maximum precipitation totaled 104 mm which was 12 mm higher compared the previous historic maximum in June.
The daily maximum precipitation in the meteorological station in Nova Khahovka (Kherson oblast) totaled 93 mm – 18 mm higher compared to the previous historic maximum.
The average temperature of the soil at the depth of 10 cm totaled +24...27°C, in western, Zhytomyr and Vinnitsia oblasts – 19.5-23°C. For 3-10 days, in one of the observation periods it even increased to +25°C and above.
In the reporting period, the relative humidity of the air in the country varied within the average range of 54-83%. For 1-5 days, in southern, eastern, north-eastern, Poltava, Kirovograd, Dnipropetrovsk and Zhytomyr oblasts the figures reduced to 30% and below.
For 1-3 days, in most oblasts, except for Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Volyn, Chernihiv, Sumy, Poltava, Kharkiv and Luhansk oblasts, the wind speed increased to 15-24 m/s.
In the remaining part of the month, the weather conditions for further crops development in Ukraine will be quite good.
