Agrometeorological conditions favored development of winter crops across most of Ukraine in the second ten-day period of October, informed the Ukrainian hydrometeorological center.
“Soil moisture content was sufficient and temperatures were close to optimal for initial growth and development of winter crops”, - the experts said.
Higher heat supply during most of days provided fast sprouting and tillering of grains. Cold snap slowed down vegetation processes at the end of the reporting period.
“Development of winter crops development delayed by 1.5-3 weeks compared to multiyear figure. As of October 20, only 15-20% of winter crops reached mass tillering stage. The rest of the crops were on the initial stage of development that was unfavorable for wintering”, - was stated in the message.
The drought remained and intensified across Luhansk, Donetsk, many regions of Kharkov, Zaporizhia, Odessa oblasts due to long-lasting deficit of precipitation.
