APK-Inform estimates the total harvest of grains and oilseeds at 104 mln tonnes in Ukraine in 2021, which is an absolute record, declared Marketing director with APK-Inform Agency, Irina Ozip within her presentation at the international Middle East Grains&Oils Congress, organized by APK-Inform in Cairo on September 30.
“Favorable weather conditions during the growing season of early grains formed rather high yields of wheat, barley and other early crops. There is also a high potential for the yield of late crops”, - she explained adding that the overall grain production is estimated at 80.6 mln tonnes, up by 24% compared to the previous season. Corn and wheat form the bulk of production volume in this segment (37.8 mln tonnes and 31.2 mln tonnes correspondingly).
The expert said that the production of oilseeds would reach the second highest result on record in Ukraine in 2021 - 23.2 mln tonnes (+19% year-on-year). Analysts of APK-Inform expect the record sunflower seed crop - 16.8 mln tonnes - due to wider area and higher yield.
“Despite the expected record harvest, the prices for Ukrainian agricultural products remain quite high. The high prices in the key exporting countries amid risks of production decline as well as reserved sales by Ukrainian farmers are the main factors influencing the price dynamics. We expect the high prices to remain throughout the season. A decrease in the purchasing power of importers as well as a limitation of trade flows during the next wave of the pandemic can limit the upward price trend”, - I. Ozip added.
