Russia and the EFTA countries free trade is up in the air
If Switzerland freezes the negotiations with Russia on Free-trade Zone creation it will negatively impact the process for other EFTA (the European Free Trade Association) countries, declared the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Russian Federation, Alexey Likhachev.
A.Likhachev stated Russia had no direct negotiations with Switzerland but had ones with all the countries of the EFTA, including Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland.
The Deputy Minister mentioned that Switzerland was not the active participant of the stated negotiations before the exacerbation of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. So its possible refusal from further participation is just the attempt to impact the process in total. Despite there were no signals from other participants, the Switzerland leave to stop all the negotiations.
Remind, last week Switzerland suspended negotiations about free trade zone creation with Russia and the Customs Union as well, due to the situation in the Crimea.
