Armenia to become the member of the CU on April 29

On April 29, 2014 the President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan will depart to Minsk to sign the agreement on the membership of Armenia in the Customs Union.

On September, 2013 Armenia stated about the intention to be the member of the CU and participate in the Eurasian Economic Council formation. The “Road Map” was signed on December 24, 2013 in Moscow. On January 23, 2014 the Government of Armenia confirmed the action schedule on the document realization.

Karine Minasyan declared the major works, provided by the “road map” were completed and if the work group does not coordinate some issues in time, the presidents will do it.

As of to date there is no final decision on the nearly 900 commodities, custom duty of which in Armenia is lower than in the Customs Union. Thus, the stated commodities will face the price increase.

The Minister of Economics of Armenia, Vahram Avanesyan mentioned that if Erevan not to get the withdrawals, the custom duties increase will total 140-145 mln USD, the rate of inflation – 1.45%.
